Decisions taken by UCBSA Executive Committee and General Council
Decisions taken by UCBSA Executive Committee and General Council
- Constitution
A special general meeting of the UCBSA General Council on 26 May 2001 amended Article 15 of the Constitution to allow the Annual General Meeting to take place in August. - Fixtures
The General Council has referred proposed international fixtures in South Africa in the 2001/2 season to the CEOs of the affiliates for input before a final fixture list is released. All affiliates will be given at least one One-Day International and the principle of spreading the game will apply to grounds which meet ICC ODI requirements. - ICC Anti-Corruption Unit Report
The UCB has endorsed the recommendations contained in Sir Paul Condon's report to the ICC. We have noted that some of these recommendations have already been implemented by the UCB in the past year. - Anti-Doping Policy
The UCBSA is in the process of developing an anti-doping policy for approval at the Annual General Meeting in August. The new player contracts at provincial and international level will include a clause related to drug use and drug testing by agents of the Institute for Drug-Free Sport in South Africa. Cricketers can expect to be tested in competition and in random out-of-competition tests in the coming season. - Staff Matters
Tracy-Lee Field has joined the UCBSA Marketing Department as PR Co-ordinator. Tracy has a background in the media and PR consulting. Her role at the UCB will be to market cricket to the public and form the link between the UCB and the public. Rosalynne Goldin has been promoted to Marketing Director and Bronwyn Wilkinson to Communications Director. - "Quota" of Players of Colour in Provincial Teams
In accordance with the guidelines set out by the Transformation Seminar in 1999, the quota of required players of colour to play in SuperSport Series and domestic Standard Bank Cup matches will be increased to three in the 2001/2 season. However, the UCBSA realizes that the focus must be on provinces developing their own players of colour and not on "buying" or luring players of colour from other provinces with the promise of exhorbitant salaries. - Performance Bonuses
The Executive Committee has approved the following bonuses for the national team in the 2001/2 season (these do not include prize money):India tour to South Africa:
Castle Lager/MTN Test Series Win: R600 000
Standard Bank One-Day International Series (triangular with Kenya) Win: R250 000
Tour to Australia:
Test Series Win: R1 million
One-Day International Series (triangular with new Zealand) Win: R500 000
Australia tour to South Africa:
Castle Lager/MTN Test Series Win: R800 000
Standard Bank One-Day International Series Win: R250 000

year.

Lance Klusener
Neil McKenzie

Mfuneko Ngam
Makhaya Ntini
Justin Ontong
Jonty Rhodes*

* Both Allan Donald and Jonty Rhodes have indicated their preference to play only One-Day Internationals. Although this preference has been accepted by the UCBSA and the National Selectors, both players have agreed that they will be available for Test selection if needed. (See statement from Rhodes)
Paul Adams, Nicky Boje, Mark Boucher, Mornantau Hayward, Gary Kirsten, Lance Klusener, Makhaya Ntini and Shaun Pollock are in the second year of two-year contracts which were offered to them last year. Mfuneko Ngam was contracted during the 2000/1 season and Andre Nel and Justin Ontong have been offered UCB contracts for the first time. The selectors' aim in choosing this squad was to balance experience with younger players who are being brought on with the 2003 Cricket World Cup in mind.
Daryll Cullinan has not been offered a contract because he has indicated he is available only for Test selection and, due to commitments with his English County, Kent, would only be available to play for South Africa in some Tests in the coming season. This does not mean he cannot be selected for those Tests.
The UCBSA has decided not to disclose the salaries or categories of contracted players and these will now be regarded as a private matter between employer and employee.
Statement by Jonty Rhodes.
Last year, I asked the UCB for permission to be considered only for One-Day International cricket and not Test matches, and the UCB very kindly agreed to this request.
