Derbyshire have given 20-year-old Paul Borrington a two-year contract at the end of a season in which he has broken into the first team and scored his maiden first-class hundred. He will finish his final year at Loughborough before rejoining the county in June next year.
He made his county debut as a 17-year-old in 2005, and in 11 matches has scored 456 runs at 28.50. His first-class century came in May when playing for Loughborough Centre of Cricketing Excellence against Worcestershire.
"Paul has shown maturity beyond his years at the top of the order since breaking onto the first team midway through the season and he thoroughly deserves his first professional contract," John Morris, Derbyshire's director of cricket, said. "With a solid technique and an excellent temperament already in place, Paul can go on to enjoy a very successful career and we will give him every opportunity to achieve that here at Derbyshire."
"It's always been my dream and ambition to be a professional cricketer so I'm naturally delighted to have signed a two-year deal," Borrington said. "Getting a run in the first team this season has benefited my game a great deal and thankfully I have been able to take the opportunities that have come my way well enough to earn a professional contract."
