Uganda and Kenya clash in a pivotal Intercontinental Cup match in Nairobi this weekend. The Ugandans will be led by Tom Tikolo, while Steve Tikolo captains the Kenyans.
Thought Uganda are unlikely to win here, Kenya were wary of their opponents. A website, New Vision.com, reported that the Kenya Cricket Association's (KCA) general manager, Sammy Obingo, said as much. "Tikolo is an experienced cricket player-cum-manager, thus the need by our coach Andy Moles to devise strategies of halting the high-riding Ugandans. We have Namibia and Uganda standing between us and a place in the semifinals in United Arab Emirates. We have to dispose of Uganda first."
All is not well, though. The players are still awaiting part of the prize money they earned for reaching the World Cup semifinals. They met Sharad Ghai, the new chairman of the Kenyan board. The frustrated players had failed to turn up for practice the previous day, though Steve Tikolo said that they had not boycotted the training. However, he revealed that the players had met board officials to discuss the payments pending.
Ghai denied that the meeting was about money, merely that it was about "ICC issues that are affecting the KCA."
The KCA will allow spectators into the ground for free, in an effort to encourage as many people as possible to watch the game.
