3-4 England's win-loss record in Tests in India since 2000 - the best for any visiting team. Only South Africa have won more Tests in India during this period. Australia have also won three Tests in India since 2000, but they have played 17 Tests as against England's 12.
33.33 England's loss percentage in Tests in India since the turn of the century - the joint lowest for any visiting team. Pakistan also have a 33.33% loss record in India, having lost two out of six Tests since 2000. England have played out five draws - the most for any visiting team. In comparison, Australia have lost 11 of the 17 Tests they have played and have a loss percentage of 64.71. South Africa, who have usually competed well in India, also have a higher loss percentage than England, owing to their 0-3 drubbing in 2015.

1 Number of series wins for overseas teams in India in the last ten years. England won a four-Test series 2-1 on their previous tour, in 2012, becoming the first visiting team to beat India in eight years. Before that, Australia had won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1 in 2004-05. There has been only one other series win for an overseas team - South Africa won 2-0 in 1999-00 - out of the 26 played in India since 2000.
41.35 England's top-order average (No. 1 to No.7) in Tests in India since 2000 - the second best for a visiting team and the best among non-Asian teams. Only Pakistan's top-order, with an average of 45.89, has done better. Among non-Asian teams, Australia are a distant second at 35.62 runs per dismissal. However, batsmen - overseas batsmen in particular - have struggled in the last couple of years in Tests in India: South Africa's top order averaged 16.69 on their 2015-16 tour - a far cry from an average of 51.44 from five Tests on their previous two tours.
1987 The last time a five-Test series was hosted by India. Pakistan won that series 1-0. Overall, there have been 20 series involving five or more Tests in India, of which England have played eight. They had won their last such series 2-1 in 1984-85.
141 Average deliveries faced by Alastair Cook per dismissal in Tests in India. Among the 43 overseas batsmen to have played at least ten innings since 2000, Cook's average is the third highest. Cook has scored 866 runs in 16 innings at 61.85, with four hundreds and three fifties.

Overall, Broad has taken 46 wickets against India at 23.34. James Anderson has taken 22 wickets in seven Tests in India at an average of 29.81.

20.12 Virat Kohli's batting average in Tests against England - the worst for any top-order India batsman (No. 1 to No. 7) while scoring at least 300 runs against them. While Kohli has averaged 13.40 in Tests in England, his average of 31.33 against them at home is also his poorest against any team.

2 Number of grounds that will be added to the list of Test venues in India during the series. The Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, which will host the first Test, and the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, the venue for the second Test, will become the 23rd and 24th Test venues in India. The last time England played the first-ever Test at a venue in India was in 1952, when Green Park in Kanpur became the sixth Test venue in India.
20 Five-wicket hauls by spinners in 16 first-class matches at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot in the last five seasons. Spinners have taken 321 wickets at an average of 29.56 at this venue. As many as six ten-wicket hauls have come in those 16 matches, including one by Ravindra Jadeja. He has taken 38 wickets at this venue at just 16.15. Thirteen of those 38 wickets came in his last first-class match at this ground - a low-scoring affair in which all the 39 wickets taken by bowlers fell to spinners - against Hyderabad, when he took his second-best first-class figures.
25.14 Fast bowlers' average, as opposed to 58.18 for spinners in first-class matches in the last five seasons at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. While fast bowlers have taken 135 wickets, including six five-fors in seven matches, spinners have taken just 43 wickets with a best of 3 for 19. However, in the recent ODI between India and New Zealand at this venue, 11 of the 16 wickets to fall in the match were taken by spinners, at an average of 12.45.
