†ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA 1989

At Nottingham, May 27

15-Apr-1990
At Nottingham, May 27. Tied. Toss: England. Two run-outs - one through a bad misjudgment by Moody, the other when Healy, slipping on the turn, injured his knee and, by falling in the crease, stranded Waugh threequarters of the way up the pitch - deprived Australia of what looked like being a well-paced if narrow win. Having lost impetus, they needed 2 runs off the final balls, bowled by DeFreitas. Rackemann, whose first ball it was, failed to make contact, but when Rhodes missed the stumps after gathering cleanly, Healy raced through for the bye that tied the match. By losing fewer wickets, however, England made certain of the Texaco Trophy, whatever the result at Lord's after the weekend. Healy, initially granted a runner, Jones, lost him on appeal when, forgetting his presence, he ran a rapid 2 himself, keeping pace with one of the fleetest members of the touring team. Lamb's chanceless and unbeaten 100, his fourth in 82 internationals, came off 104 balls and contained nine fours.
Man of the Match: A. J. Lamb. Attendance: 11,750; receipts: £193,619.
