England reaffirmed their status as favourites for the inaugural Women's World Twenty20 with a seven-wicket win over New Zealand in their first official warm-up match. England won the toss, bowled first, and restricted New Zealand to 122 for 8, before cruising to victory with seven balls remaining. Charlotte Edwards led the chase with 55 not out from 44 balls, "It's a good start," she said afterwards. "We are in our own conditions and we have been playing a lot recently, so we're in good form as a team. It was a good outing for us and I'm pleased we got the result."
Susan Benade and Mignon du Preez overcame the loss of two early wickets to put South Africa on course for a comfortable 26-run victory over Sri Lanka at Taunton Vale. The pair added 92 for the third wicket after Trisha Chetty and Cri-zelda Brits had fallen with nine runs on the board. Benade became Sripali Weerakkody's second wicket when she was bowled for 47, but Du Preez went on to top-score with 51 from 52 balls. Their total of 118 for 3 proved too daunting for Sri Lanka, who lost both openers to run-outs before drifting to 92 for 8 in their 20 overs.
Deandra Dottin powered West Indies to a comprehensive 26-run victory over Pakistan in a rain-reduced 14-over contest at King's College. Dottin displayed extraordinary power in whacking 37 not out from 14 balls, with five fours and a six, and West Indies' total of 114 for 4 was an impressive effort. In reply, Pakistan stuttered to 88 for 6, with their innings only receiving belated momentum when Javeria Khan made 35 not out from 27 balls. Anisa Mohammed, with 2 for 17 in three overs, was the pick of the attack.
There was no play possible in the final match of the day, between Australia and India at Taunton
