Barbados and West Indies fast bowler Corey Collymore is fit and ready
to go again.
Collymore, 21, who broke down with a back injury during the West
Indies' brief trip to Canada last year, was seen training at the
Cable & Wireless BET Sports Club in Wildey, St. Michael, and a source
revealed he was back in shape.
'He is fit enough to play,' the source said. 'He has been working over
a period and has been putting in an average of 18 overs an evening for
around two months.'
Collymore's first opportunity to get back into the game could come
against Pakistan when the West Indies 'A' team play them in a four-day
match at Kensington Oval, May 12-15.
During his lay-off Collymore, who made his Test debut last year
against Australia, had scans in New York and second opinions to verify
he was back in shape.
He has looked sharp in his work-outs, even though he had to make a
slight change to his action.
He is now more open-chested than before and this was designed to put
less pressure on his back. This has not significantly affected his
action, pace or direction, and he is still able to move the ball
around, and extract bounce.
'He is surely match-fit and should be fit for any game,' the source
said.
'He has put in a heavy workload and has also done some fine-tuning,
including gym work.'
