The International Cricket Council Chief Executives' Committee (CEC) is meeting in Dubai today and tomorrow to discuss many of the key issues in international cricket including the future programme, format and timing of ICC events after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
The proposals to be considered include a nine-day Twenty20 World Championship and a revamped ICC Champions Trophy.
The meeting will also be the first opportunity for the CEC to review the wide interest that has been shown in ICC events through to 2015 including the next two ICC Cricket World Cups.
The members of the CEC will consider these topics and make recommendations to the March meeting of the ICC Board regarding potential formats and timings.
The CEC will also decide on a range of matters relating to the playing of cricket. These will include a review of the trial playing conditions for One-Day International cricket that relate to fielding restrictions and replacement players. Though the trial is due to run through to the end of March, the CEC has the authority to address this topic at this meeting.
The two day CEC meeting will be followed on 16 February by an ICC Scheduling Summit at which representatives from all of the Full Member countries will discuss a potential six-year programme of international cricket.
This will be the second ICC Scheduling Summit since the members of the ICC Board indicated that they would like the implications of a move to a six-year Future Tours Program to be considered. The first summit took place in Dubai in August and it is anticipated that a draft schedule produced at this second summit will be considered by the ICC Board in Dubai from 20 to 21 March.
The CEC meeting will be chaired by ICC Chief Executive, Malcolm Speed, and attended by ICC President, Ehsan Mani, ICC Cricket Committee Chairman, Sunil Gavaskar, and ICC General Manager - Cricket, David Richardson. Mr Richardson will lead the discussions during the ICC Scheduling Summit.
