India v Australia 2007-08

A review of India v Australia 2007-08

Anand Vasu
15-Apr-2008
At Bangalore, September 29, 2007 (day/night). No result. Toss: Australia.
As soon as he had the new ball in his hands, Sreesanth began chirping at the Australians, but here at least he was able to back it up with a fiery spell in which he clocked 91mph in bursts. He soon got rid of Hayden and Hodge, who was to have a poor series, and with Gilchrist falling to a fine catch by Yuvraj Singh at backward point, India were in with a shout despite losing the toss. But Clarke returned to the scene of his triumphant Test debut three years before, and made another polished century. He began delicately, working and chipping the ball into gaps, but, once he was joined by Haddin (greeted by a beamer from Sreesanth, who immediately apologised), Clarke opened his shoulders and let rip to reach 130 off 132 balls. Australia's final total was imposing - but, just as Johnson trapped Tendulkar in front for a duck, the heavens opened and washed out a contest that was set up perfectly.
