He began delicately, working and chipping the ball into gaps, but, once he was joined by Haddin (greeted by a beamer from Sreesanth, who immediately apologised), Clarke opened his shoulders and let rip to reach 130 off 132 balls. Australia's final total was imposing - but, just as Johnson trapped Tendulkar in front for a duck, the heavens opened and washed out a contest that was set up perfectly.
