We won't underestimate India - Vettori

Daniel Vettori, the New Zealand captain, has said he doesn't think India are fielding a depleted side for the one-day series that starts tomorrow in Guwahati. The hosts have rested a number of senior players, including captain MS Dhoni, ahead of next month's tour of South Africa.

"We know all their players from IPL and we know how dangerous they can be. We are not under estimating anyone."

New Zealand will wait until they take a look at the pitch tomorrow morning to decide the composition of their side, but Brendon McCullum, who was hampered by a sore back in the third Test, will keep wickets if he is fit to play, Vettori said. "I think the conditions are pretty slow here. Nice seam movement in the morning and probably get slower and slower as the day progresses. I don't think toss will play crucial role here looking at how the last few matches have turned out here."

Jamie How, who played the last of his 31 ODIs nearly two years ago, has been recalled to the side, and Vettori hoped he would get a game. "I think he is extremely eager to come back to the side. He has been doing well in domestic cricket. He is an important player and a quality player."

Vettori said the one-day series is obviously important for their World Cup preparations, but it is also a chance to put the disappointment of losing 4-0 to Bangladesh behind them. "We have some experienced players coming back into the side. With the injury to Jesse Ryder, it's a chance for other people; let's see how we go from here.

"I think yes, we are looking at the World Cup, but I think both the teams will be looking at winning tomorrow's game. It's an important game and hopefully we will start in right earnest."
