Court asks BCCI and Government to furnish details
The Delhi High Court on Saturday requested the Board of Control for
Cricket in India and the Central Government to furnish details
regarding the telecast rights for the cricket matches to the Prasar
Bhrati allegedly under the influence of World Tel.
Justice Manmohan Sarin issued the order giving them another
opportunity to the respondants to file their replies after having
earlier issued the notices to the Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting, Ministry of Sports, BCCI and Prasar Bharati after a
petition was filed by a Delhi based Firm Combine Advertising Company
(CAC) and its owner SK Gupta. Gupta had challenged the BCCI's right to
award the telecast rights to Prasar Bharti and also alleged that the
Board had given the contract to Prasar Bharti without calling for
international bids.
Meanwhile, a Bangalore city civil court admitted an injunction suit
which was filed by B Shreepathy Rao and Sanjay Chabra requesting the
cancellation of the telecast rights to the World Sports Group
consortium by the International Cricket Council. The petitioners
contented that the rights were awarded to WSG even after ZEE Telefilms
had made the highest bid.
