At Port Elizabeth, May 16, 2009. Chennai Super Kings won by seven wickets. Toss: Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians 147-5 (20 overs) (S. T. Jayasuriya 30, J-P. Duminy 62, A. M. Nayar 33*); Chennai Super Kings 151-3 (19.1 overs) (M. L. Hayden 60*). Chennai Super Kings 2 pts. Man of the Match: M. L. Hayden.
Mumbai lost the plot - and their chances of making the semi-finals, barring improbable results elsewhere - in the final overs of either innings. When Mumbai batted they managed only 17 from their last 13 balls, whereas Chennai conjured up 30, to win with five balls to spare. The vital innings was played by Hayden, who eschewed his usual all-out attack to make 60* from 57 balls - his first boundary came from his 34th ball.
