A couple of fine performances by Services players
could not prevent their team going down to a 29-
run defeat at the hands of Jammu & Kashmir in the
North Zone Ranji Trophy one day encounter at the
Harbax Singh stadium in New Delhi on Thursday.
Put in to bat, J & K were restricted to 175 for
nine in 50 overs. Wickets fell at regular
intervals with SV Ghag (3 for 30) and Arun Sharma
(3 for 31) doing most of the damage. But perhaps
the most impressive performance came from
wicketkeeper Sarabjit Singh who brought off two
catches and two stumpings.
Services too found runs hard to come by and they
were ultimately bowled out for 146 in 46.1 overs.
The only batsman to put up a semblance of a fight
was SD Nadkarni. Going in at 40 for one in the
15th over, Nadkarni scored a valiant 51 before he
was ninth out at 133 in the 44th over. Nadkarni
faced 80 balls and hit just one boundary. But he
received very little support and the result was
that J & K were able to pull off a creditable
victory.
