Jamaica knock Guyana out

Defending champions Jamaica knocked hosts Guyana out of the tournament courtesy a 36-run win in their fifth-round match at Providence. Set 180 to win, Guyana were bowled out for 143 in 45 overs, with the Jamaican spin duo of Lorenzo Ingram and Bevon Brown taking three wickets apiece. Ingram, a left-arm spinner, was the Man of the Match for his 3 for 21 and Brown gave steady support with 3 for 25 from seven overs.

Christopher Barnwell's poor run continued with another duck, slashing Andrew Richardson to third man, and when Narsingh Deonarine was dismissed by Andre Russell, Guyana were 5 for 2. Rajendra Chandrika (27) and Travis Dowlin added 65 for the third wicket stand before Chandrika became legspinner Gavin Wallace's first victim. Dowlin, Guyana's captain, made 60 but his dismissal at 114 for 6 in the 37th over was followed by a swift collapse.

Jamaica, put in by Guyana, had been dismissed for 179 in 49 overs. Brenton Parchment fell early for 6, but West Indies Under-19 opening batsman Horace Miller scored a valuable 37 from 75 balls, Danza Hyatt made 46 from 87, and Tamar Lambert contributed 35, which included two sixes and a four. With their second win in two days Jamaica have moved up to 11 points while Guyana languish at the bottom of the table on four points.

Kavesh Kantasingh and Romel Currency shared seven wickets in a six-wicket Combined Campuses & Colleges win over the United States of America at the Everest Sports Club in Georgetown. Put into bat, USA were restricted to 127 for 8, with Kantasingh (4 for 15) and Currency (3 for 20) doing the damage. In reply, Kirk Edwards top scored with an unbeaten 36 to guide CCC across the finishing line with 15 balls to spare.

Play had started four hours late because of a combination of rain and wet conditions, and the match was reduced to 27overs-a-side. Kantasingh, a left-arm spinner, removed Orlando Baker (9), Carl Wright (14), Gowkaran Roopnarine (0) and Aditya Thyagarajan (1) in a tidy spell. Currency got stuck in with the wicket of Dennis Evans (30) and added a couple more. An unbeaten ninth-wicket sstand of 33 between Greg Sewdial and Timroy Allen helped USA avoid being dismissed inside their allocation of overs.
