Jon Moss, the allrounder, will captain Victoria in the Pura Cup until their regular captain, Cameron White, returns in November from Australia's tour of India. Moss, 29, led the state in one game last year, an innings-and-158-run win over Western Australia, and the extended appointment has just been announced by Cricket Victoria.
Greg Shipperd, Victoria's coach, said that Moss was a clear thinker with a competitive personality, and the role would be an important step in his development. "Jon continues to develop in quantum leaps and his behaviour in support of the wider criteria engaged by Cricket Victoria is exemplary," he said. "After his taste of captaincy in the Pura Cup last season we felt he earned and deserved this opportunity."
Victoria are the defending Pura Cup champions and begin their season against South Australia at Adelaide on October 16. "As a group we know that the competition will be coming after us," said Moss, who had played for Derbyshire during the winter, "and it's imperative that we get off to a good start and gain some momentum."
No decision has been made on who will captain Victoria in the ING Cup.
