Kashinath Khadkikar (103) was the toast of the day one in the Cooch
Behar Trophy quarterfinal between Bengal and Maharashtra at Nehru
Stadium on Tuesday. Maharashtra won the toss and decided to bat first.
Maharashtra were 292/7 in 91 overs by the close of play. Maharashtra
were helped by an excellent partnership of 144 for the fourth wicket
by Kashinath Khadkikar and Rohan Dharwat. Khadkikar struck the ball to
all parts of the field and made the ball cross the ropes fifteen times
in his 126 ball stay at the crease. Dharwat made 79 and hit 12 fours
and a six. Bengal offspinner Sourashish Lahiri carried the bulk of
their bowling and finished with the figures of 37-9-121-4.
