Jamaica continued to show the form which took them to the title by finishing the first day on 294 for 4 at Jarrett Parkagainst Guyana, who are propping up the table. Captain Tamar Lambert led the way with a 90, and he was supported by contrasting half-centuries from Danza Hyatt and Carlton Baugh; opener Hyatt was cautious, taking 175 balls for his 69 while Baugh was more cavalier, needing only 54 deliveries to make his unbeaten 50. Guyana had a satisfactory first session, reducing Jamaica to 66 for 2 before Lambert and Hyatt put the champions back on track with a 129-run stand. Hyatt fell on the last ball before tea and Lambert was dismissed ten short of his second century soon after but Baugh and David Bernard (32*) kept the Jamaicans on top.
It was a more even first day in Anguilla, where Trinidad & Tobago offspinner Amit Jaggernauth's five wickets kept Leewards Islands to 290 for 9 after they chose to bat. All of the Leewards' top eight reached 20 - except, strangely, the in-form Runako Morton, who reeled off double-centuries in consecutive games before this one - but only Kieran Pollard went on to a half-century. Leewards, who are unbeaten in their previous six games after losing three of their first four matches, paid the price for their inability to build partnerships, only the sixth-wicket stand between Steve Liburd (40) and Devon Thomas (37) yielded more than 50 runs. They had taken Leewards to a solid 229 for 5 but Jaggernauth removed them in quick successive overs to give T&T the edge. T&T couldn't polish off the tail, and No. 8 Wilden Cornwall's unbeaten 32 shepherded Leewards towards 300.
Spinners held sway in the other game of the round, with Combined Colleges and Campuses' Anderson Sealy, Ryan Austin and Kavesh Kantasingh sharing eight wickets to bowl out Barbados for 235 in Bridgetown. Barbados looked set for a much bigger total when 16-year-old debutant Kraigg Brathwaite (73) and Ryan Hinds (58) had taken their side to 107 for 1. Their association was broken just before lunch when Austin spooned a catch to extra cover. Brathwaite continued playing without taking too many risks, but there was little support from the others, none of the other Barbados batsmen reached 25. Dangerman Dwayne Smith was run-out after a mix-up with Brathwaite, who nicked a legside long hop to the wicketkeeper soon after to be the fifth man out. The tail didn't put up much resistance, the last six Barbados wickets fell for 66. CCC finished the day on 27 for no loss.
