Greg Mail, the stubborn top-order batsman, has retired after a 10-year first-class career with New South Wales to take a job in banking. Mail, 31, scored nine hundreds for the Blues in 72 games and leaves with 4085 runs at 32.16.
He did well to hold his spot when the state's internationals returned earlier in the decade, but has not played since the end of last summer. The 2003/04 season was his most successful, with 754 runs at 47.12, including two centuries in the same match against South Australia.
"Both on and off the field, Greg set an outstanding example to his team-mates," the Cricket NSW chief executive David Gilbert said. "His dedication and commitment to New South Wales over the past decade is a reason why the team has enjoyed such a successful period." His decision comes despite posting a record with back-to-back double-centuries in the Sydney grade competition.
