Glenn McGrath has some reservations about his first season for Worcestershire - even though he's taken 100 wickets in all competitions this summer.
The Australian fast bowler, who's reported to be on a contract worth £100,000 a season, has taken 68 first-class and 32 one-day wickets.
McGrath, 30, will return to Worcestershire in 2002 for the second year of his contract after playing for Australia in next summer's Ashes series, believes he could have performed better for his adopted county.
McGrath, who reached 100 wickets in Sunday's National League game with
Lancashire, said: "I put more pressure on myself than anyone else because of
what I feel I can achieve out in the middle.
"I go out and try and achieve the fairly realistic goals that I set myself. I
was aiming for six wickets a game in the 16 championship matches and rounded it
up to 100.
"But the Glamorgan match was washed out and, with me missing three more
matches while back in Australia for the recent one-day series, that knocked that
back.
"If I look at how many innings I haven't bowled in then it's not been too
bad. But I feel within myself that I could have probably bowled a little bit
better every now and then and taken a few more wickets."
The Aussie paceman originally expected to take more wickets in the County Championship than he's eventually achieved.
He said: "The one-dayers have gone really well. I've been happy with the way
I've bowled in those - but in the four-day games the wickets have been tough
work especially for someone like myself.
"I've found county cricket a little bit tougher than I thought it would be in
respect of the wickets we are playing on. I should have expected them to be a
little slower than I'm used to.
"But overall I'm still pretty happy with things and I have really enjoyed
this year a lot more than I thought I may have."
