Monde Zondeki, the South African pace bowler and a World Cup squad member, was injured in a motor accident over the weekend. The fast bowler was a passenger in a car travelling from East London to King William's Town when the car overturned. Zondeki sustained injuries to his left shoulder and was not considered for the two upcoming touring squads.
X-rays taken at Frere Hospital in East London revealed a crack in his shoulder bone as well as a fracture in another bone. The doctor who examined him confirmed that surgery was not necessary, but with Zondeki, being a high-profile international sportsman anxious to return to sport, other arrangements might have to be made.
It was thought that Zondeki would be unable to play for at least a month. His arm was placed in a sling. He was discharged and will see a specialist in East London tomorrow.
