Berkshire secured the Minor Counties Championship with an eight-wicket win over Lincolnshire at Falklands CC. The win, their first since 1953, helped compensate them for their loss in the MCCA Knockout Trophy final to Devon last month.
The first and third days of the four-day match were washed out, but in between Berkshire made 358 for 6 and then bowled Lincolnshire out for 105 and 311. Set 59 to win, Berkshire eased home in eight overs.
Berkshire's innings was built around an unbeaten 100 from their captain Bjorn Mordt, and former Leicestershire offspinner Carl Crowe did the damage with the ball, taking 6 for 42 and 6 for 107.
"It's an amazing feeling, especially after the disappointment we had at Lord's," Mordt told ECBtv. "It gives me shivers down my back. It really means a lot to lead these guys.
"To win has been fantastic, especially in two days. The weather was terrible but Carl's performance was fantastic, that made a big difference for us. Hopefully this is not a one-off and we have to wait another 50 years or more. We're playing good cricket and we want to keep going for the next two or three years. We've got a fantastic team and I don't see why we can't."
