Former Sri Lanka cricketer and national selectors Sidath Wettimuny was compelled to lodge an entry with the Cinnamon Garden police after he was threatened with alleged assault by Sri Lanka Test cricketer Hashan Tillekeratne at the Nondescripts CC grounds on Tuesday.
Wettimuny had gone to the ground to pick up his son who was a student of Lionel Mendis' school of coaching when Tillekeratne, a member of the club had allegedly used abusive language and told him to leave the club premises.
Wettimuny had left immediately and returned with NCC coach Rumesh Ratnayake to pick up his son when Tillekeratne had again come and allegedly abused him and threatened to take his life.
Wettimuny had eventually picked up his 10-year-old son with the assistance of Ratnayake and left the club.
Tillekeratne (32) a veteran of 56 tests was dropped from the national squad after the 1999 World Cup in England when Wettimuny was the chairman of selectors. He has not played any international cricket since July last year.
Last week the nationa selectors under T.B.Kehelgamuwa recalled Tillekeratne to the Test squad which is preparing for the December tour to South Africa.
