NBP Patrons' Cup: Results Summary

Maedia Release: PVB on NBP Patron's Cup results

Taufeeq Umar inspired Habib Bank (HBL) to a 59-run victory over Sargodha in the National Bank Patron's Cup One-day Cricket tournament at Sports Stadium, Sargodha, on Friday.
The left-handed opener struck 100 off 135 balls to propel the bankers to an imposing 298 for six from the allotted 50 overs. In turn, the home team was dismissed for 239 in 47.5 overs with Danish Kaneria celebrating his recall to the national team with figures of five for 33.
The victory allowed the bankers to finish second behind Wapda from Pool A.
Wapda recorded a quick and one-sided win against Gujranwala by seven wickets at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) also notched up a two-wicket victory over Multan. But their efforts were not enough to earn them a place in the quarterfinals when they lost out on net run-rate after all the three teams finished equal on 12 points each.
ZTBL, powered by Abdul Razzaq, overhauled Multan's 251 in 36.2 overs though required to achieve the target inside 30 overs to improve their net run-rate. Then Wapda's rapid victory also spoilt their calauclations. After the group matches, Wapda secured a net run-rate of +1.57, Habib Bank had a net run-rate of +0.95 while ZTBL had a net run-rate of +0.72.
However, Abdul Razzaq had everything to gain from the match when he put up an allround performance to restore his confidence ahead of next month's Sharjah Cup. The promising allrounder picked up three wickets for 39 runs and then clobbered a 61-ball 92 that included 14 boundaries and three sixes.
Taufeeq slammed 10 boundaries for Habib Bank and featured in two fruitful partnerships. For the second wicket with Saleem Elahi (40), adding 84 runs and then for the fourth wicket with Imran Farhat (46), another 84 runs. Hasan Raza was the other notable run-getter for the bankers with a run-a-ball 52 that included just three boundaries.
When Sargodha batted, they found the going tough against Danish Kaneria as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Only Tanveer Hussain offered any resistance of note with a 86-ball 71 that was laced with eight boundaries and a six.
