New Zealand v Zimbabwe, 2000-01

At WestpacTrust Stadium, Wellington, January 4 (day/night)

At WestpacTrust Stadium, Wellington, January 4 (day/night). New Zealand won by eight wickets. Toss: Zimbabwe. International debuts: J. D. P. Oram; A. J. Mackay.
Zimbabwe were given a brilliant start by Campbell, who made light of a sluggish pitch and outfield at Wellington's modern stadium. Unfortunately, he could not find a steady partner as Zimbabwe lost four middle-order wickets for 24. Campbell finally fell for 111, including nine fours and a six in 133 balls. Needing 237, New Zealand showed rare enterprise when Sinclair and Astle opened with 153 in 35 overs. When Sinclair was run out for 85, having struck nine fours and a six, pinch-hitter Styris weighed in with a 33-ball 48. Astle remained to the end, hitting the boundary that completed New Zealand's first one-day win since their ICC Knockout triumph in October. It was his seventh four, in addition to two sixes.
Man of the Match: M. S. Sinclair.
