Saeed bin Nasir blasted a majestic unconquered 186 and Misbah-ul-Haq slammed 106 for Khan Research Laboratory (KRL) who scored a 100-run victory over Sialkot in a high scoring NBP Patron's Cup One-day Cricket Tournament match at the Saga ground in Sialkot on Saturday.
Saeed, a promising youngster with immense talent and potential, faced 130 balls and his innings was spiced with 25 boundaries and six sixes. Misbah, who has been recalled for next month's Sharjah Cup, struck 10 boundaries and four sixes from 83 balls to help KRL post a mammoth 408 for four from 50 overs after being put in to bat.
Sialkot didn't surrender without a fight and replied with 308 with opener Shahid Yousuf scoring a 98-ball 95 that included 16 fours and a six. The 10-over spell from Saeed Anwar Junior put the brakes on Sialkot scoring rate when he conceded only 47 runs and also picked up four crucial wickets.
Saeed and Misbah featured in a 248-run third wicket partnership. After Misbah was dismissed in the 46th over, Saeed took command and helped KRL add 51 runs from the last four overs. In fact, KRL added 118 in the last 10 overs. For the home team, paceman Shahid Khan picked up three wickets but was hit away for 93 runs.
In an another high scoring affair, Faisalabad surprised National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) when they won their match on the last ball by three wickets in their backyard. Chasing the bankers 298 for nine, Faisalabad required five off the last over which they scored with a boundary off the final ball with the scores level. Sami-ul-Haq played the match-winning innings when he hit a 96-ball 103 that included nine fours and a six. He received excellent support from Mohammad Salam (75) and Asif Hussain (67).
NBP's total revolved around Salman Butt and Imran Nazir who scored half centuries. Salman scored 79 off 92 balls with nine fours and a six while Imran hit a rapid 55-ball 71 with six fours and four sixes. The two put on 116 for the first wicket after the bankers had won the toss and decided to bat first.
In a close finish, Rawalpindi defeated Peshawar by two wickets with five balls to spare at the KRL ground in Rawalpindi. Peshawar, put in to bat, scored 272 with Mohammad Fayyaz scoring 95 from 101 balls with the aid of 11 boundaries and a six. Together with Aftab Khan (58), Fayyaz added 145 for the fourth wicket.
The home team, on their turn, achieved victory losing eight wickets in 49.1 overs with even contributions coming from Zia-ul-Haq (51 not out), Junaid Zia (50), Mohammad Taj Khan (34), Waheed Ahmed (27), Shahid Mahmood (26 not out) and Ajmal Shah (23). For the unfinished ninth wicket, Zia and Shahid added 65 runs just when Rawalpindi were looking down the barrel being 208 for eight in the 40th over.
Allied Bank Limited maintained their unbeaten run in the competition when they notched up a 10-wicket victory over Lahore Whites at the LCCA ground. Chasing a modest target of 107, the bankers achieved victory in 8.5 overs with Humayun Farhat hitting a 31-ball 67 with 15 boundaries.
The defeat didn't spoil Lahore Whites berth in the quarterfinals as they edged out Pak PWD on better run-rate from Pool D.
Pak PWD did win their match against Service Industries at Gymkhana ground in Okara by six wickets. But they achieved the victory target of 245 in 49 overs.
