At Bridgetown, Barbados, May 2, 2011. West Indies won by one run (D/L method). Toss: West Indies. One-day international debuts: Tanvir Ahmed, Usman Salahuddin.
The unseasonal wet weather that had left parts of Barbados flooded the previous week finally halted this match in the 30th over of West Indies' reply, two balls after Dwayne Bravo heaved a Shahid Afridi long-hop over the midwicket boundary to ease his side ahead on the Duckworth/Lewis formula. An earlier interruption had adjusted their requirement to 223 from 39 overs, after Mohammad Hafeez's 121 from 138 deliveries - he hit seven fours and three sixes, and shared a second-wicket partnership of 153 with Asad Shafiq which formed the basis of Pakistan's total. After Shafiq's dismissal in the 39th over triggered a sharp decline, Simmons's 76 from 70 balls set West Indies on course. Pakistan fought back, only for Bravo to inch his side in front as the weather intervened for the last time. It was a contrived result but, for West Indies, welcome all the same: it was their first win in a one-day international against a major Test-playing nation since beating India in Jamaica in June 2009.
Man of the Match: Mohammad Hafeez.
