Pakistan v Sri Lanka

At Tangier, August 14

15-Apr-2003
At Tangier, August 14. Pakistan won by 28 runs. Pakistan 4 pts. Toss: Sri Lanka.
Like South Africa on the first day, Pakistan had a special motivation: this was their national independence day. After the cannily restrictive bowling of the South Africans, Waqar Younis's strokeplayers found Sri Lanka much more to their liking. A partnership of 50 off only 22 balls between Younis Khan and Abdul Razzaq was the highlight as the last ten overs yielded 99 runs. In reply, Jayasuriya hit his stride immediately. But after his run-a-ball 36, the Sri Lankans found no momentum. By the time de Silva - who had played in the first game at Sharjah 18 years earlier - reached the middle, the job was too great, as the Sri Lankans' progress was strangled by Shahid Afridi's leg-spin and the young fast bowler Mohammad Sami - 90mph and economical.
Man of the Match: Younis Khan.
