At Sharjah, April 10, 2003 (day/night). Pakistan won by eight wickets. Toss: Zimbabwe.
Taufeeq Umar took the match award for his unbeaten 81, but the game had long since been
settled by Mohammad Sami. His pacy opening spell reduced Zimbabwe to 22 for three on a
blameless pitch, and from that point there was no way back. Taibu scampered fifty and gave the
innings a gloss of respectability, but Taufeeq and Yousuf Youhana shut out the possibility of any
miracle comeback. Taufeeq supplied the staying power, Youhana the majority of the strokeplay
and together they added an unbroken 144 in 29 overs, the highest stand of the tournament. This
match was the 2,000th one-day international. It had taken 24 years to reach 1,000, but only eight
more to reach 2,000.
Man of the Match: Taufeeq Umar.
