Pakistani cricketer dies after fatal no-ball bouncer
AFP KARACHI, Nov 23 (AFP) - A 30-year-old Pakistani cricketer died
after being hit by a bouncer during a match in a domestic cricket
tournament, cricket officials said Monday.
Iftikhar Ahmed, representing Nazimabad Gymkhana, was hit on the neck
while attempting a hook shot off fast bowler Ahmed Ali Jafri of Ghauri
Sports Club in the southern Pakistani city of Hyderabad on Sunday,
they said.
Local cricket officials said Iftikhar fell to the ground and was
rushed to a local hospital where he later died.
The umpire declared the delivery a no-ball, as it was above shoulder
height.
The All-Sindh Malik Asad Sikanadar tournament was suspended for two
days to mourn his death.
Earlier this year, India's Test cricketer Raman Lamba died in Dhaka
after being hit on the head while fielding close during a club cricket
tournament.
