Three half-centuries from the top order in the first innings followed by Kenroy Peters' fourth five-wicket haul this season laid the foundation of Windwards Islands' comfortable 175-run win against Trinidad & Tobago in Couva. Windwads secured a 51-run lead and set T&T a target of 301, which proved enough as Mervin Matthew's 5 for 19 led their charge and dismissed T&T in just over three and a half hours.
The tone of the match was set by a strong opening stand of 99 between Devon Smith (70) and Tyrone Theophile (39) after Windwards had opted to bat. Smith's half-century was followed by similar efforts from Miles Bascombe (65) and Romel Currency (59) and it kept T&T at bay despite Imran Khan's six wickets.
In response of Windwards 350, T&T's Jason Mohammed hit his fourth first-class century but did not receive much support from others - Kieron Pollard's 45 being the second highest score - as Peters ran through the side to finish with 6 for 59.
Windwards wobbled to 85 for 4 in the second innings after Pollard's strikes - two in one over - but yet another half-century from Currency, an unbeaten 66, lifted Windwards to 249. Pollard finished with 5 for 36, but could only add 3 in 18 balls as T&T were bowled out for 125 in 47 overs, eight batsmen either bowled or lbw.
