Left-arm spinner Paul Adams was doubtful for the first Test against Sri
Lanka starting at the Galle International Stadium on Thursday, after
pulling a groin muscle during the Singer Triangular Series final against
Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Friday.
South Africa are flying out another left-arm spinner Robin Peterson as a
replacement.
Uncapped Peterson (21) from Eastern Province has taken 40 wickets (avg.
31.65) from 13 first-class matches and has career best figures of 6 for 67
v Border (East London) 1999-2000. He has been playing first-class cricket
since 1998-99 and is currently involved with the South African Cricket
Academy.
Peterson who is expected to arrive tonight, is described by South African
team manager Doug Russell as "an exciting prospect" and if Adams does not
come through, may possibly walk straight into the Test side at Galle.
Peterson said that no immediate decision has been taken by the tour
management to send Adams back.
" The physio (Craig Smith) said that he is making good progress. We will
probably keep our fingers crossed," said Russell.
