Dhaka, 27 May: While it appears that no cricket match could be played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka tomorrow (Sunday) because of heavy rainfall, the two match referees however, have been entrusted to see if the game can be salvaged at the last moment.
Bangladesh Cricket Board Chairman Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Event Manager Syed Ashraful Huq at a joint press conference this evening said that the two match referees would examine the ground condition tomorrow morning and give their views if any game could be played.
If they find any positive indication, they will again inspect the ground at 2:15 (local time) for the second time and the play could begin at 8:30 pm at the latest, allowing enough time for both the sides to play 25 over each.
If the decision is negative, the two match referees may decide to play the match on Monday. BCB Chairman said when the Sri Lankans were asked, they agreed to play on Monday in case the situation really becomes desperate.
The ICC rules say, in case the scheduled match cannot be played because of weather conditions, the two teams share one point each. The two match referees are: Salim Badar from Pakistan and Vengkat Raghavan from India.
Sri Lanka, the only foreign team present in the city, spent a lazy day on their second and third day of the tour. The heavy and continuous shower affected their successive practice schedule.
