Jonty Rhodes led the South African challenge in the latest round of county matches with his first century of the season, 128 in Gloucestershire's drawn County Championship match against Northamptonshire. Gerald Brophy made 32 and 10 for Northants in the same game, while Andre Nel scored 39. But in his day job as a bowler Nel could manage only 1 for 84.
Rhodes was not as successful in the one-day National League game against Worcestershire, ending up on the losing side after making 13. For Worcestershire, Nantie Hayward continued his early-season good form with 2 for 24.
Steve Elworthy and Greg Smith continued their successful partnership with the ball for Nottinghamshire against Lancashire. Both of them took five wickets in the drawn match. Kevin Pietersen chipped in with 1 for 33 in the first innings. With the bat Elworthy scored 30, while Pietersen and Smith both made 19.
Nic Pothas continued his fine start to the season with 87 in Hampshire's drawn game with Glamorgan at Cardiff, while Sven Koenig (43 and 7) helped Middlesex to an exciting three-wicket victory against Sussex.
James Bryant helped Somerset to a Championship win over Durham, with 13 and 51, but then made a duck as Durham turned the tables in the National League match, in which Dewald Pretorius - making his debut for Durham - did most of the damage with 4 for 31.
Andrew Gait had mixed fortunes for Derbyshire. He scored 54 against the Bradford/Leeds University team (that's not a first-class match), but only 18 in a losing cause against Middlesex in the National League.
