Ramnaresh Sarwan, the West Indies vice-captain, has
been ruled out of the five-match ODI series against
Pakistan due of a foot injury, sustained during
the final day's play of the Test series against
Pakistan.
Sarwan was batting on 35 when he was struck on the
right foot by a vicious, swinging yorker from Umar Gul
during the 32nd over the West Indian second innings in
the morning session. He immediately fell to the
ground, in visible pain. After a few minutes
treatment, he was carried off the field by trainers.
He was taken to a local hospital for X-rays, which
confirmed a small hairline fracture in his right
instep. He will fly back to the West Indies before the
ODI series.
Sarwan was recalled for this match after being dropped
for the second Test in Multan because of poor form. In
the first innings, he had been bowled for a duck by
Gul, from another reverse-swinging yorker.
Sarwan is a vital member of the West Indies ODI side
and widely regarded as one of the most accomplished
ODI batsmen in world cricket. Though his form during
the DLF Cup in Malaysia and the Champions Trophy in
India was patchy, he averages over 44 from 115
matches.
