South Africa v England 1999-2000

At East London, February 4 (day/night)

15-Apr-2001
At East London, February 4 (day/night). South Africa won by two wickets. Toss: South Africa.
With South Africa needing seven from four balls, Pollock hit successive full tosses from Ealham to the boundary. Initially they had been tied down by an England attack that included Mullally for the first time in the tournament, and at 126 for five in the 32nd over, with 106 still needed, the game was intriguingly poised. First Rhodes and then Klusener, taking ten off his first three balls, from Caddick, provided the acceleration. Alleyne was instrumental in removing both - bowling Klusener and holding a blinding catch off Rhodes - just as earlier he had ensured a respectable England total by putting on 74 with Ealham. Knight struck his third fifty of the competition but Hick's poor form continued. His five innings had contributed 50 runs.
Man of the Match: M. W. Alleyne. Attendance: 16,070.
