South Africa v New Zealand, 2005-06
15-Apr-2006
At Bloemfontein, October 23, 2005. South Africa won by two wickets. Toss: New Zealand.
New Zealand seemed to have the match in the bag when Boucher departed to the last ball of
the 40th over, leaving South Africa still needing 68 with only four wickets left. Bond had recovered
from a wayward first over which cost 17 - it included three fours and a first-ball wide - to claim
two wickets, and Mills bowled Kallis through the gate with his first ball. But a level-headed
partnership of 65 between Kemp, who blasted three sixes in his 73 from 64 balls, and Pollock
took them to the brink of victory before both departed in the space of three balls from Patel in
the 49th over. Boje won the match with a slog that just evaded the diving Fleming. Earlier, New
Zealand had been given a good start by Fleming, who motored to 45 from 48 balls before being
brilliantly caught by the diving Gibbs at point. McMillan's 66 from 75 balls included a lofted
straight six off Kallis, who took his revenge with a slower ball, his 200th one-day wicket.
Man of the Match: J. M. Kemp.
