Statement on Gus Logie's innocence in match-fixing scandal

We are appalled at media reports today which have stated that former West Indies batsman, Gus Logie, has been implicated in the CBI match-fixing report in India

Pat Rousseau, President of WICB
02-Nov-2000
We are appalled at media reports today which have stated that former West Indies batsman, Gus Logie, has been implicated in the CBI match-fixing report in India.
This is totally untrue and the report itself - through the words of bookmaker Mukesh Kumar Gupta himself - has completely cleared Gus of any wrongdoing and as far as we are concerned he has nothing to defend. We wish the public to know this and are asking for all those who have sullied Gus' impeccable reputation and good name by issuing such stories in the media to stop and to retract what they have reported.
On page three of the CBI report, Gupta - the man who has accused a number of international crickets of being involved in match-fixing - says and I quote "... after dinner that night, (I) spoke to Gus Logie of the West Indies over (the) telephone. However, Gus Logie refused to cooperate in any manner."
We in the WICB are satisfied that Gus knows nothing about any match-fixing as I said in my earlier statement. We stand by him and we are disgusted that just the mention of a player's name - even when it is clear that individual watned wanted to part in any attempt to corrupt the game of cricket - can be turned into such unmerited scandal.
Statement by Gus Logie:
I, Gus Logie, have never had any involvement in match-fixing of any sort and I cannot see how anyone can conclude that I have been implicated in any such matter, especially given the contents of the CBI report.
I want nothing to do with this and I am extremely hurt by media reports across the region which are saying that I have been implicated. These stories have affected not only me but also my family and I am asking that they stop and that the true position be published.
