Former Kent Captain, Steve Marsh, today announced his retirement from first-class cricket. Marsh made his debut for Kent in 1982, was capped in 1986 and captained the County from 1996 to the end of 1998. This season he has been captaining the Second XI and has played an important role in the Kent one-day side.
Derek Ufton, KCCC Chairman of Cricket, paid tribute to Marsh: "Everyone at the Club knows what a fantastic contribution Steve has made to the Club during his time with us. He has more than upheld Kent's long tradition of successfully combining the roles of wicket-keeper and batsman and was very unlucky not to have played for England. He has always been totally committed to Kent, has put in many fine performances over the years and we all owe him a huge vote of thanks."
On announcing his decision to finish at the end of the 2000 season, Marsh commented: "I have enjoyed every minute of my playing career but there comes a time when you have to look to the future. I have very much enjoyed helping out in the Second XI this year and, in particular, working with the youngsters. I hope perhaps that opportunities in the coaching area will emerge for me as well as continuing with my other business interests. Finally, I would like to thank everyone in the county who has supported me over the years."
