Saqlain Mushtaq's off-spin put a break on Yorkshire in the top-of-the-table
championship clash at The Oval after Michael Vaughan and Darren Lehmann had
put Surrey under early pressure.

The visitors' eventual lead was only 16 runs but they maintained their momentum with Mark Butcher's dismissal to Chris Silverwood before he had scored. Overnight rain prevented play before the time of the normal lunch interval and four more overs were lost later on.
Vaughan progressed steadily and as against Durham in the last match found an effective partner in Lehmann - the latter was particularly severe on Ian Salisbury who was hit for 72 runs in just over 12 overs. Lehmann's innings of 55 included two sixes from Salisbury and the stand with Vaughan was worth 94 runs. When he was out Vaughan continued more sedately. Saqlain finished with 6-63.
