Talat Ali wants better discipline

Talat Ali, Pakistan's new manager, is determined to improve discipline in the national side and will urge the players to respect umpires.

Ali, who is a former ICC match referee, replaced Zaheer Abbas, the manager on the recent tour to England which included the controversial Oval Test that was abandoned on the fourth day. The Pakistan team refused to resume play after tea on being penalised five runs for ball tampering and Inzamam faces an ICC disciplinary hearing, in London, on September 27 and 28.

"I will tell the players to follow the Code of Conduct and respect the umpires," Ali told Reuters. "Even if there are some bad decisions leave it up to the management to handle these things."

"My job is to work closely with the players. To give them the right advice," Ali continued. "If there are any complaints over the umpiring the ICC has a laid down procedure to file reports.

"In my experience as a match referee, I know that it never pays to resent an umpire's decision. Players can vent their anger and anguish in the official reports - not on the field."
