Tim Coyle will continue as coach of Tasmania next season after he missed out on replacing Tim Nielsen as the head coach at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane. Coyle was approached to apply for the position after guiding the Tigers to their first Pura Cup title in March.
He said it was pleasing to be considered but he had plenty left to achieve at Tasmania, where he is contracted for the next two seasons. "We want to be contenders in all three forms of the game," Coyle said.
"For the last two years our one-day form hasn't been great and we want to address that issue. We've retained all our players apart from Matthew Wade, who went to Victoria, and we've gained [fast bowler] Tim Macdonald from Western Australia, so we think we've got all the bases covered."
David Johnston, the Tasmanian Cricket Association's CEO, said Tasmania were glad Coyle was staying. "[We] encourage Tim to progress in his career, as we do with all our staff but we are relieved to hear that he will be remaining in Tasmania to hopefully build on the success he has already achieved over the past two years," Johnston said.
The selection process at the Centre of Excellence will continue as they search for a replacement for Nielsen, who has left to take up his new role as Australia's coach.
