TCA Media Release - David Boon retires
from the Tasmania Cricket Association
At 2:00 pm on Wednesday 10th March at Bellerive Oval David Boon
announced his retirement from 1st class cricket in Australia.
David will play his 139th First Class game for Tasmania this weekend
against New South Wales.
In his first class games for Tasmania he has battled 233 times and
amassed 9077 runs at an average of 41.44, with 46 50's and 22 100's. He
has also taken 10 wickets. He debuted for Tasmania in 1978-79 season
against Queensland in Brisbane making 22 and 10 at the age of 17. His
highest score for Tasmania is 227 against Victoria at the MCG in
1983-84.
He has also played 55 Limited overs games for Tasmania making 1725 runs
at an average of 35.94 with 16 50's, 1 100 which is his highest score of
116 against New South Wales at Bellerive Oval this season.
David captained Tasmania 57 times at Sheffield Shield level with a
record of 13 wins, 25 losses and 19 draws.
He has also represented Australia in 107 Test Matches and 181 Limited
Overs Matches.
DAVID BOON SUNDAY
The Board of the Tasmanian Cricket Association have declared the last
day of the Sheffield Shield match, Tasmania v New South Wales as David
Boon Sunday.
The public will be admitted free of charge on that day and there will be
a presentation made to David shortly before the start of play on Sunday.
A commemorative programme will be given away at the gate along with
cricket posters, cards and Milo products. There will also be rides and a
jumping castle on the hill for the kids, a longest throw competition at
the lunch break, clowns and magicians entertaining the children along
with face painters.
