To review or not review - that's never a question for Kuldeep • Associated Press
It's the worst-kept secret in Indian cricket: Kuldeep Yadav sucks at DRS reviews.
And now finally, after years of coaxing his captains into reviewing his appeals, mostly to lose them, it seems he is ready to admit that himself.
After finishing as the top wicket-taker in the ODI series against South Afric, Kuldeep seems in a generous enough mood and, coaxed by Rishabh Pant and Harshit Rana, he says: "Clearly, what I want to say is: I'm very bad at DRS calls and that I tend to think one out of the two reviews [per team] ought to be reserved for me."
During Kuldeep's spells, viewers often get to see him appealing, less to the umpire and more to his captain, to call for a review. Rohit Sharma, India's former captain, standing at slips will often be seen laughing at Kuldeep or waving him away dismissively or trying to remonstrate with him, but the bowler has frequently gotten his way in the end.
"As a bowler, you always think it's a wicket for you," Kuldeep explains. "But Rohit bhai and KL [Rahul] bhai stand behind the wicket and have a better idea of whether the ball is missing [the stumps] or because of height. I'm very bad at DRS, because I'm always convinced it's out. If there are only two reviews and you don't have the right people to guide you [about whether to take them or not], then you'll mess them both up," he admits ruefully.
"Rohit bhai will always ask me what I think was the line [of the delivery]. Line and impact are the big calls and he's very particular about them."
India won the ODI series 2-1 and are leading the five-match T20I series 1-0.
