Fast bowler Allan Donald has reaffirmed his long-term commitment to South African cricket and has indicated his desire to sign a new contract with the United Cricket Board of South Africa when he returns from England in September 2000.
In a telephone call to UCBSA managing director Dr Ali Bacher this afternoon, Donald said he remained passionate about South African cricket and Dr Bacher confirmed that Donald would be offered an 18-month contract from October 2000 to April 2002. This will bring his contract period into line with those of other national players whose two-year contracts were announced this week. Like the other contracted players, Donald will be available for all Test matches, One-Day Internationals and tours. Beyond that, Donald said he would also like to be considered for selection for the 2003 Cricket World Cup in South Africa.
Donald, who was recently voted one of South Africa's top 10 cricketers of the 20th Century, has 297 Test wickets to his name, having taken an average of just under five wickets per match. In the 18-month period of his new contract, South Africa are scheduled to play 21 Test matches.
