The Chennai Test between India and Sri Lanka may have been ruined by rain but there was still time for two of the world's leading bowlers, Chaminda Vaas and Anil Kumble, to make upward moves in the LG ICC Player Rankings.
Vaas's masterly 4-20 from 21 overs moves the Sri Lanka swing and seam bowler up four places to fourth in the rankings with a career-best points tally while leg-spinner Kumble's 3-41 lifts him up one place and into the top ten.
Vaas's performance has also moved him up one place in the all-rounder rankings to fifth spot and he is now just behind fellow Sri Lanka player Sanath Jayasuriya, who has been left out of the squad for this series
Kumble is now India's only bowler in the top ten as left-arm pace bowler Irfan Pathan has slipped down two places to 11th spot. Vaas, meanwhile, is now just below team-mate Muttiah Muralidaran.
The Sri Lanka spinner's points tally has dropped by six despite taking two wickets in Chennai and he now shares second spot with Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne while Warne's team mate Glenn McGrath remains the number one ranked bowler.
There are no changes in the top ten batting slots in the LG ICC Player Rankings with three Indian players - Rahul Dravid (5th), Virender Sehwag (7th) and Sachin Tendulkar (10th) all in that group.
Kumar Sangakkara is Sri Lanka's highest-placed batsman, in joint 16th place, while Mahela Jayawardene's 71 from 80 balls has moved him up one place to 19th in the listings.
A newcomer in those listings is Mahendra Dhoni. He debuts at number 94 in the batting list after making 30 on his first Test appearance.
The schedule for the remaining matches in the India - Sri Lanka Test series is as follows:
10 - 14 December - second Test, Delhi
18 - 22 December - third Test, Ahmedabad
