Vettori injures his left ankle in on-field collision

TelstraClear Black Cap Daniel Vettori injured his left ankle whilst batting in the first innings of the second Test being played against Sri Lanka at Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy, yesterday (Monday, May 5)

TelstraClear Black Cap Daniel Vettori injured his left ankle whilst batting in the first innings of the second Test being played against Sri Lanka at Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy, yesterday (Monday, May 5).
Vettori was running a quick single to the off side when he collided with Sri Lankan fielder Marvan Atapattu who was attempting to run him out.
Both men were forced to leave the field immediately and were taken to hospital.
According to team manager Jeff Crowe initial x-rays have not revealed any break or fracture to Vettori's ankle.
"The doctors at the hospital could not find any break or fracture, but the ankle has been placed in a splint and is badly swollen.
"Our advise is it will be another 24 hours before the swelling has gone down enough for a final diagnosis," he said.
Initial reports indicate Marvan Atapattu has a minor neck injury and mild concussion as a result of the collision.
