Lahore, Oct 22: Paceman Shabbir Ahmad has been withdrawn from the
Australia-bound Pakistan cricket team and replaced by Waqar Younis.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ad hoc committee member Javed Zaman Khan,
announced here on Friday that Shabbir Ahmad would be included in the
Pakistan team after the International Cricket Council's advisory panel
on illegal deliveries reviewed his bowling action and cleared him. The
advisory panel was expected to take at least three weeks to meet and
discuss Shabbir Ahmad's case.
ICC referee Peter van der Merwe of South Africa, who officiated in the
Toronto Cricket Festival, had expressed doubts about the bowling
action of Shabbir Ahmad.
However, till such time the advisory panel meets, discusses and clears
Shabbir, which is likely to take at least three weeks, he will not be
able to represent Pakistan and as such his name from the
Australia-bound Pakistan team is being withdrawn. In his place, Waqar
Younis will now proceed to Australia", said Javed Zaman Khan in his
announcement.
