White rejoins Foxes after Derbyshire stint

Struggling Leicestershire have re-signed Wayne White from Derbyshire on a three-year contract. The all-rounder will also be available for Leicestershire for the remainder of the 2015 season, other than when the team plays Derbyshire in the LV= County Championship.

White signed for Derbyshire on a one-year deal, but he has been allowed to leave the club with immediate effect and Leicestershire will hope that, at 29, he will help them mask deficiencies which are still evident despite signs of stirring from the Second Division's perennial bottom club.

His departure comes as Derbyshire's elite performance director, Graeme Welch, increases his focus on the development of his younger bowlers.

Welch said: "Wayne came here on a one-year contract and made some good contributions this summer including a couple of match winning performances. But with his contract up at the end of the summer and with a number of younger bowlers coming through, we've decided to part company a little earlier than anticipated."

White, who took two consecutive six-wicket hauls for Derbyshire in the Championship this summer, made his Leicestershire debut in 2009 and enjoyed four successful years with the club.

In the final game of his first spell at Grace Road against Gloucestershire in 2012, he hit the winning runs and was presented with his county cap upon leaving the field following a terrific season.

He then became part of Leicestershire's player drain, announcing he no longer wanted to play for the club, and joined Lancashire where he found limited opportunities.

White has so far scored 2,139 first-class runs at 28.90 for Leicestershire including a best of 101 at Derbyshire. He also took 108 wickets at 35.21, including three five-wicket hauls with a best of 5-54. He was part of the Leicestershire Foxes T20-winning side of 2011.

Leicestershire head coach Andrew McDonald said: "Wayne is a player I know very well after playing alongside him for two years at Leicestershire. He will be an asset for us both with bat and ball, and in the field.

"Wayne knows the set-up here and is a player who can do well in all three formats of the game, and we're excited to have him back at Grace Road."
