West Indies v England

Richard Hobson
15-Apr-2005
At Bridgetown, May 5, 2004. England won by five wickets. Toss: England.
In a direct reversal of St Lucia four days earlier, Trescothick eclipsed a century by Sarwan as England ended the tour by levelling the one-day series. Trescothick was at his most belligerent, standing tall to fire bullets through the off side. His 82 occupied a mere 57 balls, and he and Strauss hit six boundaries in succession during a thrilling stand of 87 in 11.2 overs. When Trescothick was stumped off a leg-side wide in the 18th over, England were already almost halfway to the target. Clarke's promotion to No. 4 proved unsuccessful, but so did Lara's attempt to stifle the innings by employing four slow bowlers. Strauss completed another composed half-century and Collingwood finished the job with one of his most productive innings of the winter. Read was there with him, having struck an earlier blow for the wicket-keeping union with a fine, lefthanded catch to remove Lara. The England seamers bowled with discipline, especially early on, and it took a deceptively quick run-a-ball hundred from Sarwan to keep West Indies in contention.
