West Indies v Sri Lanka

Fazeer Mohammed
15-Apr-2004

At St Vincent, June 11, 2003. West Indies won by six wickets (D/L method). Toss: West Indies. One-day international debut: J. E. Taylor.
As in the Tests and one-dayers against Australia, West Indies finally won only when the series was already gone. Samuels topped and tailed Sri Lanka's innings with agile run-outs and Jerome Taylor, a slightly built 18-year-old with a rhythmic, fluent action, impressed on debut. On a sluggish pitch, Collymore's experience in limited-overs matches brought a deserved three for 28 against impatient batsmen. Jayawardene was the exception, his 51 occupying nearly 28 overs before he became Collymore's third wicket. In reply, Lara failed for the first time in the series, and Gayle scratched 21 in 75 balls, but Samuels's effortless big hitting made sure West Indies remained on course to reach their adjusted target of 160 off 42 overs, the result of two rain breaks.
Man of the Match: M. N. Samuels. Man of the Series: M. N. Samuels.
